Dating from the nineteenth century, a lovely painted French boiserie panel with gilded figures observing one another. They most likely represent Helios, god of the sun, and Demeter, goddess of the harvest and agriculture. Both figures have halo shaped cloths floating over head - note the torch and four horses of Helios and Demeter's cornucopia. This particular piece would have originally been displayed above a door with other wall paneling.
The background is painted with an off-white finish. Today, this could be hung on its own as a decorative element within a gallery wall, or situated on a table-top easel.
