19th-century framed oil-on-canvas scene of chivalry 20" x 17"

A masterful oil-on-canvas scene of a man acting chivalrous. This type of scene is called a "scène galante" in French. Dating from the nineteenth century but in the style of eighteenth century. Note the number on the back of the canvas which allows us to identify it as nineteenth century. The decorated gilded frame is from the same century.
