This spectacular 19th-century earthenware saloir pot hails from the coastal region of Charente-Maritime, France. Made of chamotte clay, it was traditionally used for preserving meat in salt, a common practice in the region. The pot features a striking manganese glaze with dark burgundy tones on the interior, and the distinctive drip patterns were created during the firing process when pots were stacked, allowing glazes to flow from one to another, forming unique decorative effects.

The hand-modeled detailing around the neck adds a rustic charm, and while the lid is missing, traces of its presence are still visible. The metallic sheen of the glaze gives off a beautiful reflective quality. This saloir pot is a rare find, not only for its practical history but for its sculptural and aesthetic qualities, making it a perfect accent piece for collectors of French rural ceramics.
