A Pierre Giraudon (1923-2012) table lamp from the 1970s. A large mushroom and some green moss has been preserved in a rectangular block of resin. Note how the lampshade has branches integrated into it as though it was an autumn day with a tree shading a wild mushroom growing underneath. Pierre Giraudon was born in 1923. In the 1940s, while working as a biologist in Canada, he pioneered the inclusion of plants, animals, and other objects in resin using products of his own invention, primarily for academic purposes.

Returning to France in 1949, Giraudon began working with resin for his personal enjoyment, gradually incorporating his own artistic touches. As he mastered the medium, he started creating artworks. During the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, Giraudon produced sculptures, lamp bases, and other objects in colored resin, both with and without inclusions. Alongside his personal creations, he also collaborated with the artist César. Despite his artistic endeavors, Giraudon always rejected the label of "artist," considering himself foremost a biologist.
