This exquisite piece is a petite _conscience_ water jug by celebrated ceramist Jacky Coville. Meticulously crafted in the picturesque pottery village of Biot, where Coville established his workshop in the 1970, it stands as a testament to his captivating artistry. The jug features an organic texture, with swirling patterns and a weathered glaze that evoke the embrace of nature’s elements. Its tactile surface is enriched by an interplay of earthy tones and the occasional glimmer of glaze, drawing the eye with its raw, sculptural charm. Equipped with two looped handles on each side and a natural fiber rope threaded through them, its form is inspired by the traditional _conscience_ water jugs once used for carrying water in southern France.
Jacky Coville (b.1936), a well-known figure in French ceramics, began his career in the mid-20th century. Blending traditional techniques with modern design, his work stands out for its unique style—both timeless and inventive. Coville’s pieces have been featured in exhibitions around the world and are appreciated by collectors for their originality and character. This piece by Jacky Coville makes a captivating addition to a rustic or French country-style kitchen, displayed on open shelves or a farmhouse table. Its sculptural form and earthy glaze also pair beautifully in a curated ceramic collection, where it adds texture, warmth, and an artisanal touch to any space
