This Regence-period arbalete commode is a striking example of early 18th-century French craftsmanship. The commode is named after its distinct arbalete-shaped front, which mimics the graceful curve of a crossbow, a hallmark of the Regence style that bridges the transition between the opulence of Louis XIV and the more fluid, organic forms of Louis XV. The elegant curves of the serpentine front and sides reflect the shift towards a softer aesthetic during this period.
Crafted from walnut, the commode boasts a beautiful, time-worn patina that enhances its antique charm and highlights the natural character of the wood. The surface's rich hue and aged texture give the piece a warm and inviting appearance, adding depth and historical authenticity.
The commode features three functionnal long drawers, each adorned with antique gilt-bronze handles and escutcheons in the form of floral and foliate motifs, typical of the Regence period. These ornamental details provide a luxurious contrast to the rich wood, elevating the piece's overall elegance. The commode rests on short cabriole legs, ending in delicate doe feet, which add to its graceful stance.
With its exquisite patina and harmonious proportions, this Regence-period arbalete commode will bring warmth and timeless elegance to any room.
