A superb pair of antique French Louis XV chairs dating from the eighteenth century. The beechwood frames feature pretty floral cresting centered at the top and on the seat rail. The seat back sides feature violiné (violin-shaped) sides where the frame curves inward slightly on the sides like a violin characteristic to the Louis XV period furniture. The chairs are upholstered in a beautiful red damask fabric and rest on pretty, curved cabriole legs in the front and tapered saber legs in the back.
These would be a terrific addition to an entry foyer on either side of a mirror or console table, or as occasional chairs in a dining room. Note though there is slight movement to seatbacks consistent with age, they are solid armchairs. Note the areas of missing red trim covering the nailheads as seen in photos.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
