This highly sought after mirror is known as a 'Beaucaire' mirror. This is because the largest furniture fair in Europe was held in Beaucaire, a village in Provence on the Rhône River. It had an immense port so goods could be shipped there from the Mediterranean. During the mid-nineteenth century the fair stopped with the introduction of the railroad. This mirror was sold at the fair and could be of Italian or French origin. It is made from carved wood with a gilded finish and is beautifully decorated with flowers and foliage. A lovely choice for a powder room or small chimney mantelpiece.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
