This charming 18th-century French watering can features a large head and potbelly silhouette. It is a wonderful example of traditional coppersmithing, where copper sheets were cut, hammered, and shaped by hand. While no longer watertight, this watering can bears the marks of its utilitarian past and the wear of time, with visible repairs adding to its authentic, rustic charm. The malleable nature of copper allowed coppersmiths to create these functional objects with detailed shaping. This process also contributed to the development of a beautiful patina, which has further enhanced over centuries of use.
Today, despite its inability to hold water, it remains a sturdy and decorative piece that would make a distinctive accent in any garden or jardin d'hiver, celebrating the craftsmanship of rural French tools from this period.
