This grand antique French Régence style commode "en tombeau" featuring three drawers and short legs dates from the eighteenth century. The sides of the commode feature double panel details. The drawers open smoothly and feature all original bronze hardware and drop handles. The drop handles are held up by the charming valets (masks/figures). The keyholes are surmounted by a shell crest. This chest of drawers comes from the High Valley of the Rhone between Valence and Lyon.
The height is taller than usual and the legs are short and sturdy to hold its three deep drawers. This piece would be a wonderful addition to a bedroom or dining room for linens or serving dish storage. Note wormwood marks consistent for pieces of this age. Note also the small circular ring on the top. No keys.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
