A beautiful antique French painted walnut desk or scriban secretary piece with a fold-close top dating from the eighteenth century. The top opens using its metal loop ring to rest on a pair of sliding wood pieces which flank the upper corners of the lower piece and pull out easily using their round brass pulls to provide a sturdy landing. Inside the top, there are two tiers of storage shelves making six interior cubbies. The lovely paneled two-door cabinet below opens to reveal a single shelf.
Note the pretty scalloped apron. Its warm, light beige and yellow patina makes it a versatile and classic country-style piece, and its petit nature makes it an advantageous option for a cozy corner writing space. An delightful country piece with all its original functionalities and rustic charm. Note the shelves inside the upper portion are not all exactly straight but they are solid. Note the loose piece of wood resting inside the upper portion is not a necessary component. Key for lower cabinet is included. There is no key needed for the top.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
