This chic 17th-century octagonal mirror from Tuscany is all about balance and contrast, with its bold geometric shape and the striking interplay between the warm oxblood red paint and the softly worn gilded finish. The frame is defined by its clean, angular molding which allows the striking geometry of the octagonal form to shine. A rich oxblood red underlayer provides a dramatic counterpoint to the softly worn gilded surface, creating a bold yet harmonious interplay of color and texture.

The original mercury glass retains much of its brilliance, gently foxed in places, lending the reflection a subtly atmospheric quality that enhances the mirror’s antique charm. The absence of elaborate carving draws the eye to the thoughtful balance of tone, line, and form, revealing a Tuscan sensibility that favors quiet elegance over overt decoration. Perfect for bringing a touch of architectural interest to both traditional and contemporary spaces, this mirror stands out effortlessly—whether placed above a console, in a library, or as part of a gallery wall. Its quiet elegance, sculptural form, and beautifully aged finish make it a lasting decorative element with timeless charm.

Condition and patina consistent with age.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
This mirror contains its original mercury glass which sparkles beautifully in the light. The technique of making mercury glass mirrors was retired in the early 1900s. The mercury is fixed behind the glass in a solidified, non harmful state.
