This charming ostrich egg dates to the 19^th century. It is mounted on metal legs designed to look like ostrich legs. This Napoleon III piece would have originally been displayed in a Cabinet de curiosités – a room used for displaying collections of natural history objects, a concept which began in the 16^th century.
