Behind the scenes with Susannah Cameron - Chez Pluie Founder
Non, je ne regretter rien.
No, I don't regret anything. Edith Piaf
I am a completely devoted Francophile. So much so that I left hometown Melbourne and a corporate career in construction to follow my French dream.
My background is architecture and construction, so for me Chez Pluie is a daily tonic combining my passion for design with my obsession with all things French.

Each week I hand select beautiful one of a kind pieces to add to our collection for our international clients. My love for the French farmhouse aesthetic and elegant interiors is fundamental to the pieces you find in our range.

The most satisfying part of my work is hearing from clients when they unwrap their Chez Pluie treasures with the scent of Provencal lavender transporting them to the South of France. Our customers write a new chapter for these old-world and artisan objects that find themselves in their new home - from New York to Hawaii, Berlin to Sydney.

Our loyal merchants have decades of experience and source pedigree pieces - farmhouse tables, antique confit pots and mirrors, buttery linens and objects from cabinet de curiosités.

You will find me pounding the pavement regularly in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and at Sunday brocantes around the Avignon area.
Current trends that I am excited about are metallic finishes and a sharp rise in demand for vintage ironstone and kitchen pottery. I love contrasting textures and colours - take a vintage Michel Dartois pineapple ice bucket and add contrast with clean lines of ironstone preserving jars, for example.
My favourite collections are garden planters, cutting boards and decorative accents where you will find classic garden urns, rustic cutting boards and authentic collectibles.
The natural beauty of Provence is a daily sight for sore eyes.
Rolling hills, craggy limestone, truffle oaks, endless rows of vines and lavender, olive trees and blossoming cherry trees are interrupted by bubbling rivers and winding country roads dotted with ancient stone houses with blue shutters. La Provence, je t'aime.
Life in a village of 500 is very different to life in a big city. Summer nights are spent sharing apero with our friends in the square, dancing at fêtes and concerts in the vines.
